Shabbaton faq

Who is the Shabbaton for?There are two ways to qualify. 1) Learning! Join JewQ and score an average of 70% or higher on all three tests. 2) Doing! Join the Tzivos Hashem CKids Brigade and complete 100 missions (starting Rosh Hashanah 2021).

Where is the Shabbaton?The CKids Shabbaton will be hosted in the 4-star Hyatt Regency hotel in Princeton, New Jersey. The Hyatt is located at 102 Carnegie Center, Princeton, NJ 08540.

How can I get to Shabbaton?Depending on where you live you can choose any of the following options. Please note the program starts at 9:00am Friday morning so to ensure the best expereince for your child please be on time. 1) Drive You can drive in with your own viechle arriving at the hotel Thursday night or Friday morning. (If you want to come Thursday night please take a look at Early Check-In section). 2) Crown Heights Bus There will be a bus leaving from Crown Heights at 7:00AM Friday morning free of charge. It is around an hour and a half drive from Crown Heights to the hotel. 3) Flying in To fly directly in to the Hyatt, Trenton (TTN) is the nearest airport. Newark (EWR) and Philly (PHL) are around an hour from the airport. (Again, if you choose to fly in Thursday night please take a look at the Early Check-In section). If you would like to fly into New York and stay in the Crown heights area, Laguarda (LGA) and JFK airports are the closest ones to fly into. Then Friday morning the free Crown Heights Bus will be available for you.

How does Early Check-In work?Shabbaton participants have the option of checking in to the hotel Thursday night for an added fee of $150 per family of 4. Supper will also be provided.

What does the Shabbaton program look like?All kids who join Shabbaton will be part of different bunks based on age and gender. Each bunk will have two dedicated counselors who will make this weekend exciting and unforgettable! Additionally, there will be Head Counselors leading a jam-packed, fun-filled, and motivational program.

How much does Shabbaton cost?Ckids Shabbaton has 3-tier pricing. You can self select from one of these options: - The full cost for Shabbaton is $599 per participant. - The partially subsidized cost is $475 per participant. - The fully subsidized cost is $299 per participant. This cost includes hotel lodging, meals, and Shabbaton program for the entire weekend. Complementary Shabbaton sweatshirts will be provided for every child who joins!

What is the refund policy?Our refund policy is as follows: For Covid-19 concerns (or other medical reasons), we offer a full refund at anytime. For other reasons, refunds are offered as followed: During registration: Full refund minus 6% After registration closes: 50% refund Week of Shabbaton: No refund

Do I need to bring food?Of course not! All your meals are on us. Get ready for some second (and third) helpings of high-quality kosher food.

What is a chaperone?Each child is assigned a chaperone who is solely responsible for the child outside the hours of Shabbaton programming, making sure that the child is brought to the program and picked up every day. The chaperone can be either a parent, rabbi, rebbetzin, or another caring and responsible adult designated with the role of chaperone.

What will a parent or chaperone do during the Shabbaton?Alongside the children's program, a parent’s program will also take place. Parents will hear from world-renowned speakers, enjoy delicious meals, and watch top-notch entertainment. Participants last year gave rave reviews. Some aspects of the parent’s program will also be intertwined with the kids’ program.

What will a Rabbi or Rebbetzin do during the Shabbaton?Besides for being responsible for drop off and pick up every day, rabbis and rebbetzins are welcome to join the parent’s program.

What do I pack?The New Jersey weather is set to be slightly chilly during Shabbaton, so make sure to pack sweaters, leggings, socks, and other warm essentials. Dressy Shabbat clothes are also a must! :) All JewQ champions are also asked to bring black skirts (girls) or pants (boys), to wear during the JewQ International Torah Championship.

How will hotel rooms be assigned?Children attending Shabbaton together with a parent will be assigned to a room together. Children attending Shabbaton without a parent will be assigned to a room with other children under the supervision of CKids staff. Room requests can be made on the registration form. An extra room can be booked for an additional cost. We recommend that families with more than 5 people book 2 rooms.

What are the Covid-19 policies?CKids Shabbaton will be following all CDC guidelines along with the specific guidelines of the State of New Jersey. To that effect, CKids Shabbaton requires proof of a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of arrival. You will be able to upload that into your Shabbaton portal to ensure smooth check-in.

Early check-in is available starting Thursday at 5:00 PM for an additional fee of $150 per family and includes dinner and an extra night in the hotel.
Bus schedule:
A complementary CKids bus will travel to and from Crown Heights. The pickup and dropoff point is 792 Eastern Pkwy, Brooklyn, NY 11213.
Departing Crown Heights: Friday, March 11 at 7:00 AM
Returning to Crown Heights: Sunday, March 13 at 7:00 PM
